Ram Patel

One week after scoring 106 not out against Werrington, I walked out to bat for Wellingborough Indians Sunday 1st XI against City CC Sunday 2nd XI on 4 May 2025. By the time I was done, I had my highest ever score.

Back-to-Back Centuries
Scoring consecutive centuries is something you dream about. The confidence from the 106* the previous week was still buzzing through me. I felt like I couldn't miss the ball.
The innings was built on intent from ball one. I punished anything loose, drove elegantly through the covers, and when the bowlers dropped short I was pulling and cutting with authority. Once I passed 100, there was no reason to stop — the ball was going everywhere and I kept finding gaps.
162 Not Out
162 not out — my career-best score. Surpassing the 104* I'd made against Laxton Park in 2023, this was a different level. The boundary count was relentless, and remaining unbeaten made it all the more satisfying.
I also bowled 6 overs, though without a wicket on this occasion. Some days are about the bat, and this was emphatically one of those days.
The Bigger Picture
In the space of eight days: 106* and 4/33 against Werrington, then 162* against City CC. That's 268 runs without being dismissed and 4 wickets across two matches. It was the purple patch every cricketer hopes for — and at 16, it felt like a sign of what's to come.
